Nurse-led interventions slash high-alert medication errors in ICUs.
High-alert medication errors in intensive care units (ICUs) can lead to severe patient harm. Nurse-led interventions may offer a solution. All included studies showed reductions in medication error rates and improvements in compliance and cost savings, with a moderate to low risk of bias in most studies. The findings support incorporating nurse-led strategies with training and technology for error reduction in ICUs but highlight the need for integration into workflow and ongoing education. Multicomponent nurse-led interventions effectively reduce high-alert medication errors in ICUs.
