TKI combos may improve initial disease control in metastatic RCC.
This study informs treatment selection for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) by comparing dual immune checkpoint blockade with combinations including tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), using real-world data. ICI plus TKI showed a trend toward longer progression-free survival (PFS) than ICI plus ICI (28.7 vs. 16.6 months, HR 0.69, p = 0.050), though overall survival (OS) was similar. Findings suggest TKI combinations may offer better initial disease control, but no long-term survival advantage was noted. Interpretation requires caution due to retrospective design and potential confounding. Consider individual patient priorities when choosing between ICI and TKI-containing regimens for metastatic RCC.
