Carbapenem resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii emerges as a public health crisis.
Acinetobacter baumannii is a major cause of hospital-acquired infections with increasing resistance to carbapenems, posing a significant public health challenge. Carbapenem resistance was high at 83.3% for imipenem and 72.2% for meropenem, with blaOXA-51 found in 100%, blaOXA-23 in 86.1% of isolates. The study highlights the need for molecular surveillance and antimicrobial stewardship to combat multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii in healthcare settings, particularly where these resistance genes are prevalent. Molecular surveillance and stewardship are crucial as carbapenem resistance spreads through blaOXA genes in Acinetobacter baumannii.
