Pharmacists can lead the safe perioperative management of GLP-1 receptor agonists.
GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) are widely used for multiple conditions, posing unique perioperative medication management challenges. No consistent increase in aspiration pneumonia risk was found, but individualized risk management is essential due to potential delayed gastric emptying. Pharmacists can enhance perioperative care by implementing a structured approach for risk management and coordination with surgical teams. Pharmacists should lead individualized perioperative management for GLP-1 RAs to prevent adverse outcomes.
