Background Information

Non-TNFi biologics may lower PsA risk in psoriasis.

This study investigates how different biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) used for psoriasis may influence the progression to psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Understanding this can help tailor treatment approaches to prevent PsA. Patients with psoriasis treated with non-tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (non-TNFi) bDMARDs had lower odds (OR range 0.16-0.25) and hazards (HR range 0.17-0.30) of developing PsA compared to those on TNFi. The findings suggest that selecting non-TNFi bDMARDs, such as IL-17 and IL-23 inhibitors, may reduce PsA risk. These results are based on a real-world cohort study, but applicability to pediatric cases needs separate investigation. Choosing non-TNFi bDMARDs could lower PsA progression risk in psoriasis patients.
