Anti-TNF therapy is less effective after biologics with different mechanisms.
Understanding the effectiveness of anti-TNF therapy after prior biologic treatment with a different mechanism of action (MOA) is crucial for optimizing treatment strategies in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In Crohn's disease (CD), anti-TNF after a different MOA showed a 55% higher risk of discontinuation compared to first-line therapy. In ulcerative colitis (UC), it had significantly lower durability and remission rates. The study indicates that anti-TNF therapies used after biologics with a different MOA may lead to reduced treatment success, particularly in UC, suggesting the need for careful consideration in treatment sequencing. Anti-TNF after a different MOA is less effective and durable, especially in ulcerative colitis.
