Background Information

SGLT2 inhibitors show no significant rise in UTI risk.

The risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs) with SGLT2 inhibitors is unclear despite their common use for type 2 diabetes, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease. SGLT2 inhibitors did not show a statistically significant increase in any UTI (RR 1.08, P = 0.060) or serious/complicated UTI (RR 0.99, P = 0.960). These results indicate no significant rise in UTIs, differentiating between lower-grade urinary events and more severe infections, unlike the known risk of genital infections. SGLT2 inhibitors do not significantly increase UTI risk, distinguishing them from risks of genital infections.
