Setmelanotide shows promise in reducing BMI in hypothalamic obesity.
Acquired hypothalamic obesity is challenging to manage and leads to significant weight gain and related health issues. Setmelanotide resulted in a 16.5% reduction in body mass index (BMI) compared to 3.3% with placebo and decreased hunger scores significantly. The study suggests setmelanotide may be an effective treatment for acquired hypothalamic obesity, but adverse events were common, highlighting the need for careful patient selection and monitoring. Setmelanotide shows promise in managing acquired hypothalamic obesity with significant BMI reduction.
