Background Information

Board-certified pharmacists improve ICU patient outcomes.

The study examines the impact of pharmacist board certification on outcomes in critically ill patients, highlighting potential improvements in mortality and discharge rates. Board-certified pharmacists (BCPs) were associated with reduced mortality (OR 0.80, 95% CI 0.69-0.92) and increased ICU (HR 1.08, 95% CI 1.03-1.13) and hospital discharge rates (HR 1.19, 95% CI 1.13-1.26). Findings suggest board certification of CCPs is a modifiable factor that can improve patient outcomes in the ICU. The study is robust with a large sample size across multiple institutions. Daily care by board-certified pharmacists may enhance mortality and discharge outcomes in ICU patients.
