Pharmacist Review Flags Drug Problems in CKD Patients Starting SGLT2 Inhibitors
A single-center observational study describing the feasibility of clinical pharmacist-led medication review and nephrotoxic burden assessment in nephrology outpatients newly started on sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors.

CKD patients often face medication burdens which can increase nephrotoxicity risks, impacting their health outcomes. In 72 patients, 69 drug-related problems were identified, with high acceptance (85.5%) of pharmacist recommendations. No overt nephrotoxic events were observed. This study highlights the importance of pharmacist-led reviews in managing polypharmacy and reducing nephrotoxic risks in CKD patients. However, further studies are needed for definitive conclusions. Pharmacist-led medication reviews reduce drug-related problems in CKD patients on SGLT2 inhibitors without observed nephrotoxic events.
