Maribavir and rifampin interaction: dose adjustment is key.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections are significant in immunocompromised patients, and drug-resistant strains complicate treatment options. Rifampin significantly reduced maribavir's pharmacokinetic parameters, but dose adjustment to 800 mg TID achieved therapeutic levels. This case report highlights the need for dose adjustments and therapeutic drug monitoring when maribavir and rifampin are coadministered. Further research is needed to verify these findings. Rifampin reduces maribavir exposure, necessitating dose adjustment and monitoring.
