Background Information

Early FH detection in children can extend life expectancy.

Early diagnosis and treatment of familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) in children can significantly improve life expectancy and reduce the risk of premature cardiovascular disease. Revised diagnostic criteria and treatment goals for LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) in children with FH are presented, emphasizing early screening and initiation of lipid-lowering therapies (LLTs). The guideline highlights the need for pediatric FH screening programs and updated LDL-C treatment goals, which can enhance early intervention strategies. Implementing pediatric FH screening and early LLT can drastically improve long-term outcomes.
