Background Information

Resmetirom is the first drug to reverse MASH and fibrosis.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) can progress to severe liver damage and lacks effective approved treatments. Resmetirom showed both resolution of MASH and improvement in fibrosis, leading to FDA and conditional EMA approvals. Clinicians now have a new therapeutic option for non-cirrhotic fibrotic MASH, with ongoing evaluation of its role alongside other treatments like semaglutide. Resmetirom offers a novel approach to reverse liver damage in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
