Semaglutide might offer cardiovascular protection for patients with obesity who do not have diabetes, addressing a critical need in this population. Semaglutide reduced the risk of cardiovascular events from 8.0% to 6.5% compared to placebo (hazard ratio, 0.80; 95% CI, 0.72 to 0.90; P<0.001). The study suggests semaglutide could be used beyond diabetes treatment for cardiovascular risk reduction in obese patients without diabetes, although the adverse event rate needs consideration.
