Background Information

Semaglutide cuts heart risks in obesity without diabetes.

Semaglutide might offer cardiovascular protection for patients with obesity who do not have diabetes, addressing a critical need in this population. Semaglutide reduced the risk of cardiovascular events from 8.0% to 6.5% compared to placebo (hazard ratio, 0.80; 95% CI, 0.72 to 0.90; P<0.001). The study suggests semaglutide could be used beyond diabetes treatment for cardiovascular risk reduction in obese patients without diabetes, although the adverse event rate needs consideration. Semaglutide significantly reduces cardiovascular events in obese patients without diabetes.
